The Gretsch Renown series brings the distinctive Great Gretsch sound at a lower price for working drummers while still retaining the classic Gretsch features. 30-degree bearing edges, the silver sealer interior, and the classic Gretsch lugs are shared classic features derived from the USA Custom line. The new Gretsch Renown drums bring a change from die-cast hoops to the '302' hoops. These hoops can be found on Gretsch's Brooklyn and Broadkaster series drums. Gretsch '302' hoops produce a similarly focused sound to Die-Cast hoops, but are lighter in weight and less rigid, allowing the drum to breathe a little more to achieve its maximum resonance. Complemented with new tom- suspension mounts, USA Remo heads, and easily adjustable T-Wing screws the Gretsch Renowns continue to improve and enhance what is already a tried and tested formula.
Renown still features the classic 7-ply Gretsch formula maple shells, with 30-degree bearing edges and exclusive “Silver Sealer” interiors. But this Renown comes with a new twist with the addition of the Gretsch's player-friendly “302” hoop—the same hoop used on Gretsch's Brooklyn and Broadkaster series drums. Gretsch 302 hoops produce the desirable focused sound like that of a die-cast hoop, but are lighter in weight and less rigid, allowing the drum to better “breath” and achieve maximum resonance.
The Renown delivers the traditional Gretsch sound with an incredibly open, harmonic tone that supplies the versatility needed to meet the demands of the hardest working drummers.
For 135 years, the Gretsch Drum Company has produced classic American instruments that drummers the world over covet. The signature “great Gretsch sound” has been utilized by numerous classic and modern drummers alike; Max Roach, Tony Williams, Cindy Blackman, Taylor Hawkins, and Vinnie Colaiuta are just a few examples of master drummers that have sat behind Gretsch kits. Currently, Gretsch’s three lines of professional-grade drums (the Brooklyn, Broadkaster, and USA Custom) are built by a small team of dedicated craftsmen in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Gretsch also offers a number of affordable import lines that allow beginner and intermediate drummers to be a part of drum history and play behind a Gretsch set.
