A remarkable solidbody guitar that is everything I expected from Benedetto and more. The antique burst finish is elegantly applied on this piece, and it enhances the grain and detail on the top. Rarely can you find a carved spruce top like this on a solidbody--and the chambered mahogany body adds depth and warmth that is extremely difficult to achieve without a full archtop design. The neck is familiar to someone who is accustomed to archtops, and like all Benedettos I've ever played it is extremely comfortable.
Plugged in to an Acoustic Image Coda +, I feel right at home playing a few solo arrangements and gliding through a few choruses of an uptempo bebop tune. Close your eyes and you would forget you were playing a solidbody if it weren't for the lack of a huge 17" body strewn across your lap. In this way, this guitar more than fills the role of an exceptional jazz instrument...but there is much more. Through a Victoria Victorilux I found some familiar electric guitar tones, only with a little more warmth and midrange punch that you might expect from a carved spruce top and chambered body. The Benedetto A6 humbuckers are highly detailed and really pick up on subtle changes in dynamics and phrasing very well.
This is the perfect guitar for the jazz player who needs something that will resist feedback and be able to handle higher volume levels gracefully, or for the fusion or rock player who wants a warm, responsive instrument with classy styling and rich, detailed tone.
This particular used guitar came from a longtime customer and was originally bought at Soundpure! It's in very good used condition with a few small dimples on the body particularly one the top between the controls and input jack,
Benedetto's beautifully compact solid body electric guitar is designed for the player looking for a solid body Benedetto. Providing a wide spectrum of classic and modern tones, it features a select carved spruce top and chambered mahogany body with a Florentine cutaway. A warm and responsive guitar, with twin A6 humbucking pickups and custom switching system, its tone replicates our carved top instruments.
Robert Benedetto is widely acknowledged as today's foremost maker of archtop guitars. Over a prolific four-decade career, he has personally handcrafted nearly 800 instruments, including 500 archtops. "My roots are in jazz guitar. It's been my love and my focus since Day One." Robert Benedetto was born October 22, 1946 in the Bronx, New York, into a family of artists, cabinet makers and musicians. He made his first archtop guitar in 1968. His reputation grew as he crafted guitars for noted players Bucky Pizzarelli, Chuck Wayne, Joe Diorio and Cal Collins, and, later, Johnny Smith, Jack Wilkins, Ron Eschete, Martin Taylor, Howard Alden, John Pizzarelli, Andy Summers, Jimmy Bruno and Kenny Burrell (collectively known as The Benedetto Players). His guitars appear on countless recordings, TV & film soundtracks, in videos, books, magazines, museums (including the Smithsonian Institution) and concerts worldwide. Bob & Cindy Benedetto were married in 1975. For over 30 years, Cindy has photographed and extensively documented Bob's guitars and their players. In 1994, they published the landmark book, Making an Archtop Guitar, following it in 1996 with its companion video, Archtop Guitar Design & Construction . That same year, Cindy organized the Benedetto Players in Concert series. In 2004, Mel Bay Publications produced the acclaimed "Benedetto: Body and Soul" DVD, a biography by William Doyle. From 1999-2006, Benedetto had a licensing agreement with Fender Musical Instruments to produce his models in a small, controlled manufacturing environment. In 2006, Benedetto joined forces with Howard Paul to bring Benedetto Guitars to the next level, manufacturing a broad line of more affordable professional instruments without compromising the unparalleled Benedetto worldwide reputation for singular quality. The new shop is located in Savannah, GA and is producing some of the finest guitars to ever carry the Benedetto name. Everything is done under Bob’s watchful eye with his unparalleled attention to detail and craftsmanship.
