The AudioScape AS78 is one of those compressors that feels instantly familiar—but with just enough flexibility to make it more than a one-trick pony.
At its core, you’re getting that classic fast FET response—tight, controlled, and capable of grabbing transients in a way that feels both precise and musical. It’s the kind of compression that can rein things in without killing the energy, which is exactly why this style of circuit has been a studio staple for so long.
What stands out with the AS78 is how usable it is across different roles. In stereo mode, it does a great job adding control and cohesion to buses or even a full mix, while still keeping things punchy and open. Flip it into dual mono, and it becomes a really versatile tracking tool—equally comfortable on vocals, guitars, or drums.
It’s also easy to dial in. The controls are straightforward, and you can get to a good place quickly, whether you’re going for subtle leveling or more assertive peak control. The sidechain filter is a nice touch, too—it lets you keep low end from over-triggering the compression, which makes a big difference on bass-heavy material.
Sonically, it hits a nice balance. It’s not overly colored, but it’s not sterile either—there’s just enough harmonic character to give things a bit of weight and presence without feeling heavy-handed.
For engineers looking for a fast, flexible FET-style compressor that can handle both tracking and mix duties, the AS78 delivers that classic sound with a modern, practical edge.
The AudioScape AS78 is a dual-channel FET compressor/limiter designed to deliver the speed, control, and character of a classic studio staple—updated for modern workflows.
Inspired by the legendary late-’70s dual FET designs, the AS78 features a true dual-channel architecture with both stereo-linked and independent (A/B) operation. This flexibility allows it to function as a cohesive stereo bus processor or as two discrete channels for tracking and mixing applications.
At the heart of the AS78 is its ultra-fast FET topology, known for precise transient control and the ability to tame peaks without sacrificing punch. The result is a sound that balances speed and transparency, while still introducing a subtle harmonic richness that adds depth and character to the signal.
Each channel offers independent input and output controls, with shared attack and release parameters for intuitive operation. Classic ratio selections and responsive gain reduction behavior make it easy to dial in everything from gentle leveling to aggressive peak limiting.
Modern enhancements include a switchable sidechain high-pass filter (80Hz or 120Hz), allowing low-frequency content to pass through uncompressed for improved clarity and control—particularly useful on mix bus and drum applications.
Built with high-quality components and a focus on maintaining the integrity of the original circuit design, the AS78 combines vintage inspiration with modern reliability and usability. It excels across a wide range of sources—from vocals and guitars to drums and full mixes—offering both precision and musicality in equal measure.
The result is a versatile, studio-ready compressor that delivers fast, controlled dynamics with a touch of classic analog character—making it a powerful addition to any recording or mixing setup.
At AudioScape Engineering Co., we believe in creating zero compromise, boutique-quality analog hardware for a reasonable cost. No Compromises. No BS. Many years of research, development and experimentation have gone into each product; resulting in units that can be your daily-driver, rock-solid workhorses for years and years to come. Each and every unit we sell is hand made in small batches, one at a time in the USA - right here in our Daytona Beach, Florida facility!
What sets us apart (in no particular order):
The parts: We use the most vintage accurate parts available as much as possible. NOS tubes, carbon composition resistors. A lot of decades old obsolete parts, this is truly our specialty.
The Place: We make our gear end to end on site-Manufacturing in the US has its advantages when breathing new life into old designs. A lot of the original parts that were used are readily available here. We can’t overstate how important that is to the final product.
The People: Everyone here is an audio enthusiast. Every part of the production process is curated with this in mind. Because the vintage era parts we use have wider tolerances than most newer designs, it requires a special kind of person to accurately determine what is acceptable at every stage, and make the best unique version of what that circuit can be. We embrace differences from unit to unit. When you get a piece of AudioScape hardware, that is YOUR unit unique to you. That is something not talked about enough and should be celebrated.
Our mentality is essentially the opposite of modern production. That is the AudioScape difference.
Every product we sell has a *HASSLE-FREE* Warranty Period of 2-years from the date of purchase. However, if there's ever something wrong, please feel free to email us and we'll be happy to get any issue resolved; no matter how long you've owned it!
Wishing you all the best and much love,
