A Quick Q&A with TR
When did you first start playing music?
I started taking guitar lessons in 1972 when I was 9 years old. I did that for about a year but did not get serious about guitar until 1977 when my parents bought me an electric guitar as an 8th grade graduation present.
What brought you to Sound Pure?
Word of mouth.
What gear is in your current rig?
Generally, I keep it pretty simple. Vintage Marshall or Fender amps.. Head and 412 cab or combo, depending on the gig. I’m always switching up different combinations of overdrive/modulation and delay pedals, but keeping them to a minimum. Sometimes, no pedals, just a tuner. For bass, an Ampeg V4B or GK RB400 with an Ampeg HLF 410 cab. My guitars include Gibson Les Paul Standards as well as several other vintage Gibson models, including an SG, Firebird, ES335, among others. I also own a few Fender guitars, including Stratocasters and a Telecaster. Gibson SJ150, Martin D28, and a 00015m. For bass, Gibson Thunderbird and Rickenbacker 4003 primarily.
Bands or projects now or in the past?
Currently in a cover band called Mule City Daredevils. I’ve been playing bass with a local original band called Leadfoot since 2004.
What’s on your wishlist (dream rig)?
I already have it. I’ve achieved what many guitarists only dream of: a perfect combination of a legendary, high-quality instrument like the Gibson R9 Les Paul and the modern, versatile technology of a profiling rig, giving you both a classic feel and a vast library of tones.
What’s your favorite Musical genre?
I really love all music.
What record(s) have changed your life?
The Monkees, Led Zeppelin II, The Dixie Dregs Industry Standard, The Beach Boys Pet Sounds.
What’s on your “turntable” right now?
The Beatles – Revolver
What are your passions and hobbies outside of music?
I enjoy fishing, the outdoors in general, photography, and collecting (Hot Wheels, vintage hi-fi gear, fishing gear, guitars, and amps).
