A Quick Q&A with John

When did you first start playing music?

When I was 15.

What brought you to Sound Pure?

A very long story. Give me a call and I’ll tell ya!

What gear is in your current rig?

Switching to a profiling rig is a game-changer for gigging musicians, as it allows you to digitally capture the exact sound of any amplifier you like and save it in a lightweight, portable unit, which is much easier on the back than hauling heavy tube amps.

Bands or projects now or in the past?

My time in The Ditch Dogs was all about the creative process of writing and performing our own songs, while playing in Tuesday’s Gone was a fantastic experience of honoring the classic sound and legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

What’s on your wishlist (dream rig)?

I already have it. I’ve achieved what many guitarists only dream of: a perfect combination of a legendary, high-quality instrument like the Gibson R9 Les Paul and the modern, versatile technology of a profiling rig, giving you both a classic feel and a vast library of tones.

What’s your favorite Musical genre?

My passion for music lies in the dynamic and often heavy sounds of 70s Progressive Rock and Stoner Rock, with the legendary riffs of Black Sabbath and the virtuosic compositions of Rush being my ultimate favorites, while also appreciating the intricate beauty of folk fingerstyle music.

What record(s) have changed your life?

Rush – 2112, King’s X – Gretchen Goes to Nebraska, and Alice in Chains – Dirt.

What sports teams are you into and why?

The Yankees, Thurman Munson was my hero; the NJ Devils, they used to practice on the same ice right after my high school hockey team’s
practice.

Have any pets?

I’ve had dogs my whole life. Currently, my wife and I have a rescue named Elka
