I am always impressed with the consistency of quality and playability in every Burning Water that comes to us from James Tyler. Even more impressive, perhaps, is how each individual piece retains it own unique voice and how the guitar is crafted for this character to shine through.
The first thing that grabbed my attention about this guitar was the amazing finish job, I have not yet seen a Shmear that turned out quite like this one did. Each Shmear finish comes out differently and this one is stunning! It looks as though the entire body has erupted into a metallic inferno which is also appropriate imagery for the sonic capabilities of this super-strat.
The alder body on this Tyler is lightweight and exhibits an incredibly vibrant, resonant quality. One can feel the transfer of energy from the body to the smooth quartersawn maple neck through the masterfully fitted neck joint, and the resulting tone is snappy and full of sustain. Ever heard the expression 'the whole is greater than the sum of the parts'? This is it!

Before you try a high end guitar for the first time, you respond to your heart. You saw the guitar for the first time and something about it touched you and created such a dose of anticipation in your being that you had to check it out.
The sooner, the better. And when you tracked one down, and held it, looking at it, turning it over and around, soaking up the aesthetic of it all, you realize it's more than just a guitar, it's a piece of art, and the anticipation grows.
You finally find a place to sit, shift yourself around a little until you are comfortable, slide the guitar into place, and really grab the neck for the first time.
