The Sony C800g PAC is one of the most well-respected microphones in the world that is actually in current production... it is also one of the most expensive. John Peluso, of Peluso Microphone Labs created the VTB (Vacuum Tube Bottle), with the sound of the C800g in mind. While they are not exactly the same, they do have some striking similarities, and we wanted to put them to the challenge in this vocal microphone shootout and microphone comparison test. We tracked both mics through an Avalon AD2022 on an amazing vocalist, Jeanne Jolly. One thing is for sure, we liked the sound of the VTB a lot, particularly given its $1,500 price tag, but, there's clearly very little bad to be said about the great sound of the legendary Sony C800g that continues to be a favorite choice on pop and hip-hop vocal recordings, all over the world. We conducted the shootout blindly, so that you could really listen critically, decide what you like and don't like about each of them. We will gladly give you the results, so feel free to e-mail us, or call us toll-free at 888-528-9703.
This is the cleanest and most musically transparent compressor that we've ever used. We were so blown away by it that we felt compellsed to share our experiences with it with the rest of the world. So, we shot it in HD Video and posted it to youtube (if you have the computer power and bandwidth click the HD button to see it in its highest res audio/video). Otherwise, let us know if you would like some better resolution mp3 clips, and we will e-mail them to you.

The SCL1 is so transparent that it can even handle classical music (Piano and Saxaphone) without a loss of harmonic detail, the first compressor that can pull music of this typ e off that we've ever used:
The Award Nominated, CharterOak SCL-1 Discrete Compressor Limiter will provide a constant output level regardless of input level or frequency, without the familiar pumping and gasping effect that is inherent in most compressors and limiters.
This can be attributed to the design of the circuit, which combines the features of waveform differentiation and integration. This allows for fast attack times without overcompensation and a release characteristic that is a function of dynamic range and average program level.
The device achieves this by employing a rectifier circuit that possesses a parabolic average charge curve. The end result of the circuit is a quick release that releases to a continually changing average level, which is determined by the parabolic charge curve of the storage capacitors.
The CharterOak SCL-1 circuit design is straight forward, and employs NO MAGIC BLACK BOXES OR OTHER WALLET SHRINKING COMPONENTS. All of the components used in the design of the CharterOak SCL-1 are readily available items and are employed in a manner so as to provide plenty of headroom for years of reliable operation.
The CharterOak SCL-1 is designed to fit any standard 19" rack. The unit may be used as a stereo unit, or as two independent limiters in the dual mode. This feature enables the end user to employ the device in one or two track production applications.
Do not be afraid to drive the limiter, even with classical music formats. It WILL NOT pump or gasp.
The processor is delivered with a lifetime warranty on all parts and labor and easy access to factory technical support.
