The S600 is a unique tube mic from CharterOak that works magnificently as a pair of drum overheads. The S600s are large diaphragm tube mics that have an almost ribbon-like frequency response curve - giving it a dark, colorful sound without the problems associated with ribbon mics. It has a cardioid directional pattern and handles high SPLs very well, making it a great choice for drum overheads. In this demo, we listen to the pair of S600s along with a CharterOak E700 large diaphragm mic on the kick and a CharterOak M900 with a solid state hyper-cardioid capsule on the snare. This video demonstrates a simple four mic drum setup, with samples of no EQ, Compression, Reverb, etc. as well as samples with a touch of processing.
