This Bourgeois Acoustic Guitar, a Short Scale Slope Shouldered Dreadnaught (SS Slope D) hand-crafted by renowned Luthier Dana Bourgeois, is a 2012 Luthier's Choice made with a Master grade Sitka Spruce top and Master Grade Maple back and sides. The Maple and Sitka woods, decorated with unrivaled bearclaw, and finished with a striking sunburst, give this acoustic guitar both an amazing look and sound. To use Bourgeois' words, "To my ears, this is the quintessential rhythm guitar for most music genres outside of bluegrass. The Luthier's Choice label gives me the license to do it up right, with sunburst top, back, side and neck and a varnish finish. The hand-rubbed coloring on the top is only reproducible with heavily figured bearclaw, the quality of which we are lucky to see every year or so." If you want a good meal, you ask the waiter for a recommendation,
but if you want the best of the best, you ask the chef. Not that
we don't do are homework, but it's always a safe bet to let the
creator himself have the final say.
This Custom SS Slope D is a guitar that Dana Bourgeois felt needed
to exist, and after one first strum, you'll be inclined to
agree. Actually, you probably won't even get that far! One look at
this thing is all it takes.
Here's a basic recipe:
Take two cuts of master grade wood; bear-claw sitka and curly
maple...shape 'em up and burst 'em. Make it the burst to end all
bursts. Make the back of the neck look like a Tigers eye.
How does it sound?
Imagine the PERFECT rhythm guitar; very present and bright with
just enough bass to warm your heart. This is the kind of tone that
belongs on every record. This is in many respects, the "holy
grail" of flat-tops, in the sense that all you have to do is give
it one strum to recognize its perfection. A good mix is like a
jig-saw puzzle, and this is final piece.

this is the quintessential rhythm guitar for most music genres outside of bluegrass. The Luthier's
Choice label gives me the license to do it up right, with sunburst top, back, side and neck and a varnish
finish. The hand-rubbed coloring on the top is only reproducible with heavily figured bearclaw,
the quality of which we are lucky to see every year or so. No traditional looking Slope Shouldered D is
complete without a banner decal, so I had to add one of those too. A lightweight TKL graphite reinforced case
says "I'm a player's guitar, take me to the gig."
