Sound Pure conducts a comprehensive shootout between the original real vintage Universal Audio Teletronix LA2A (Urei LA2a) and the Anthony Demaria Labs ADL1000 and ADL1500 faithful recreations of the vintage unit. The shootout begins with an explanation of the setup, the desire to own brand-new gear for its reliability, and the faithful recreation of the vintage LA2A that is the ADL1000 and ADL1500, that emulates the design, build, and sound. The ADL 1500 (the stereo version of the ADL1000) is the unit that was conducted in the shootout, because Sound Pure studios actually owns one of these units in their Control Room A. The shootout begins with a simple male vocal passage, continues with saxophone, then female vocals (with a little bit of acoustic guitar bleed), and concludes with a analysis by some of the Sound Pure engineers. They admit that matching the compression amounts was a real challenge (and wasn't perfect), but that the tonal qualities and output of the two units were spot-on within eachother. The difference between the two compressors in the shootout was simply no different than one vintageLa2a would likely be to another vintage La2a given the inconsistencies associated with the age (And any recapping or repairs). Ultimately, if you are looking for the sound of the LA2A, but require the reliability of a modern piece of audio equipment, you should look no further. You can reach us toll free at 888-528-9703 to discuss our findings, opinions, or to retrieve the high resolution audio files from the outputs of the two compressors that were used in the shootout. Feel free to contact Sound Pure at any time with any questions you have about the ADL products, compression, or anything else, we are all here to help you make your recordings the best that they can be, and get you the best possible gear for your budget.

Anthony Demaria discusses the original flagship of Anthony Demaria Labs, the ADL 1000, and the stereo version of the unit, the ADL1500 at Sound Pure Studios. The ADL1000 is a faithful recreation of the original vintage Universal Audio (UREI) Teletronix LA2A (Universal Audio), and the 1500 is a stereo version (with stereo-linking), that is otherwise identical. The faithful recreation has 4 vacuum tubes and beautifully made replica transformers. Anthony Demaria is one of the foremost experts in opto-compressor repair for original LA2As, and employs everything he knows in to the design and build of the units which continue to be faithful recreations of the original units, to this day, after more than 25 years of production. The uncompromised quality of the ADL1000 and ADL 1500 and their continued popularity around the world proves that they not only sound great, but are well-constructed and completely reliable products. Sound Pure carries the full line-up of ADL products, including the ADL1000, ADL1500, the Presonus ADL600, and the Fairchild 670 compressor replica, the ADL 660 and ADL670. The Sony C800g PAC is one of the most well-respected microphones in the world that is actually in current production... it is also one of the most expensive. John Peluso, of Peluso Microphone Labs created the VTB (Vacuum Tube Bottle), with the sound of the C800g in mind. While they are not exactly the same, they do have some striking similarities, and we wanted to put them to the challenge in this vocal microphone shootout and microphone comparison test. We tracked both mics through an Avalon AD2022 on an amazing vocalist, Jeanne Jolly. One thing is for sure, we liked the sound of the VTB a lot, particularly given its $1,500 price tag, but, there's clearly very little bad to be said about the great sound of the legendary Sony C800g that continues to be a favorite choice on pop and hip-hop vocal recordings, all over the world. We conducted the shootout blindly, so that you could really listen critically, decide what you like and don't like about each of them. We will gladly give you the results, so feel free to e-mail us, or call us toll-free at 888-528-9703.
