Sound Pure Studios is now offering weekend workshops in the recording arts. Sound Pure will offer a variety of courses including hands-on studio courses and Pro Tools certification classes. In future months, we will expand our offerings to feature a wide variety of classes and workshops for all aspects of recording.

Our first class coming up on August 28th and 29th is a Pro Tools 101 class. We are now an authorized Avid training school. The class will be two full days in which students will learn Pro Tools basics. It will be a great way for beginners to get a good jump on learning the program, and will give those with experience the chance to learn it more in depth. It is also the first step towards gaining Pro Tools certification.

Guitarist Scott Sawyer

On September 11th and 12th we will be offering the first workshop of our hands-on recording classes. This class is for all engineers interested in experiencing a recording session in a professional studio. The class will feature guitarist Scott Sawyer (who played with Oteil Burbridge, Kofi Burbridge, Kenny Soule, Nnenna Freelon, Charlie Byrd), Matt Brandau on bass, and Dan Hall on drums of the Chapel Hill band The Old Ceremony. Possibly other musicians will be announced. The recording will be for Scott’s new album, featuring a variety of textures and sonic soundscapes utilizing the recording studio. The class will experiment with microphones, preamps, compressors, EQs, and other toys. There will be in-depth lessons in microphone technique and achieving a desired sound in the studio. This is going to be a great class and lots of fun for everyone.

The following class on the weekend of September 25th and 26th will focus on mixing. The class will have a chance to be part of mixing the music tracked by Scott Sawyer and the boys from the previous weekend workshop. We will go through all steps of mixing a song and discuss the elements that make a great mix and how to achieve it. We will discuss the process of doing a mix with outboard gear as well as how a similar approach can be taken “mixing in the box” with plug-ins.
