High performance studio type closed back headphones for mixing and tracking
Well, have you ever wanted extraordinary isolation, great sensitivity, and wonderful detail in a headphone? look no further. The HFI 550 has some of the best isolation in the industry, and still represents one of the most sonically accurate stereo images available on the market. Designed with musicians in a live room, and particularly drummers in mind, the 550 comes close to the amazing precision and clarity of their truly mix-capable HFI 650 headphone, with the extra isolation, and added sound levels required for musicians and or recording engineers who have to work along side other musicians in a live (or simply loud) setting, where such detail is still desired. The 550 isn't quite as exceptionally accurate or true as it's big brother, the 650, but it does have greater sensitivity (and therefore more volume), as well as even better sonic isolation. The 550's closed-ear design, utilizing indirect firing, does an incredible job at canceling out external sound, while still remaining comfortable for those long sessions. I actually bought a pair of 550's for use on the airplane with my laptop and ipod- believe it or not, they had greater sound isolation, and much more realistic sound, than my buddies Bose noise canceling headphones. And the Ultrasones folded up smaller, didn't require batteries, and cost less!
The "S-Logic" technology uses a decentralized transducer to create the sound which means, all the other headphones simply have it wrong. Like the 650's, the Ultrasone 550's shoot sound at the large crest of the ear, the way your ear actually picks up sound, which is why they are the safest and truest headphone even remotely in this price range. The rest of the competition that shoots sound straight into your ear is not only inaccurate because it does not recreate the natural way sounds are hear within the ear, but they are actually damaging. Especially for musicians who need extra volume and better isolation, do yourself a favor and pick up a pair of the 550's- save your hearing!!! Additionally the S-Logic technology maintains its flatness, neutrality, and accuracy throughout its volume range. The Ultrasones not only address the issue of direct sound which can be damaging to the ear, but also have great reduction in magnetic field, and ultra low radioation emission. If you think cell phones are dangerous, you should read the specs on headphones. For us working engineers the greatly reduced radiation in Ultrasone headphones could actually save our life!! The standard low emission model has an approximately 50% reduction in radiation, whereas the more expensive PROline/ULE (Ultra-Low Radiation) models have a nearly 98% reduction. Sonically the difference between the standard and pro-line model is non-existent, but if you are serious about both your hearing, and not frying your brain, the PROline does it even better (although the standard model is FAR safer than any other model in my studio).
