The DRS-8 developed by Phoenix Audio UK is an 8 channel, Neve influenced, preamp designed with Class A discrete technology with both the professional and home studio artists in mind. Modeled after Phoenix's other famous preamps, the DRS-1 and DRS-2, the DRS8 uses a transformer less, Class A, discrete mic input which gives you a "valve-like" sound. What we think:

We like to call this one the Peluso "short-body" 47. While not quite the incredible detail and subtle warmth as his LE version (Peluso 2247 LE), Peluso has really come up with an incredibly affordable tube microphone that captures a lot of the original coloration and sonic characteristics (nice round low-end and low-mids) that made the original Neumann U47 so famous.

If your budget can swing the Peluso 2247 LE your money will be well spent, but if it can't you'll be hard pressed to find a better rendition of the 47 that is even remotely as well priced as this little guy. For under $1,300 this is a microphone that will add a color that most project studios have never before been able to afford.
