Jazz Guitarist Keith Ganz plays the Eastman Strings Arcthop 804 CE at Sound Pure Studios in Durham, NC. This unique guitar can achieve a wonderfully balanced sound - a nice hybrid of amplified archtop tone and acoustic performance. The top of the guitar is made from hand carved spruce, while the back and sides are solid maple. The AR 804-CE from Eastman has a classic, oval sound hole, modeled after a 1920s style guitar. This unique instrument is a great hybrid of acoustic performance and amplified archtop tone. The center oval soundhole produces a focused channel of natural acoustic sound which fills the room with warmth and presence. The hand-carved spruce top is very lively, and you can almost feel the vibrations being transferred through the grain of the wood as you play. Single lines jump out, but with an even response, and even the subtlest nuance of dynamics and phrasing is projected clearly. Switching to rhythm playing or even chord melody you get the same even response without any loss of clarity. This is a must-have instrument for gypsy jazz or old-time music and a fantastic jazz archtop!
