The D2H VN from Collings is a beautiful square-shouldered 14-fret dreadnaught, the most popular steel-string acoustic guitar body shape in the world. Although its bass response makes the dreadnought ideal for vocal accompaniment, Collings versions are also often employed by bluegrass flatpickers who must compete with inherently louder instruments such as banjos and fiddles. The wide range of woods and neck sizes offered allow dreadnought fans to find a Collings model ideally suited to their playing style and tonal preference. The D2H brings new tonal clarity, depth and warmth that is usually associated with these large body guitars. What we think:

This D2H VN is absolutely gorgeous! With eye-catching figure on the East Indian Rosewood back and sides and thin, straight grain on the Sitka top this dreadnought had me smiling before I even played the first note. This guitar has all of the flawless appointments and attention to detail we expect from Collings, and then some. The tone is crisp and clear, with plenty of projection and sustain. Collings guitars are wonderfully balanced instruments and this piece is a fine example of this quality--the note seperation is outstanding. The pre-war scalloped bracing provides a full, robust tone with plenty of bass response and headroom. In terms of tone, looks, and feel, this is one of the best Collings dreads we've seen yet!

Description:

The square-shouldered 14-fret dreadnought is the most popular steel-string acoustic guitar body shape in the world. While Collings is certainly not the first to build them, we bring a new tonal clarity to the depth and warmth usually associated with such a large, deep-bodied guitar.
