What We Think

Borderline magical stuff going on here, folks!  The words "Bourgeois" and "Brazilian" used in the same sentence always indicate a source of utter enchantment but this instrument is truly something special.  I don't know the last time I played a guitar this small and I certainly can't recall an instrument -of any size- with a tone as dark, thick, and complex as this phenomenal Piccolo Parlor's.  We've--and I mean both electric and acoustic players alike!--decided we like it tuned a whole step down to both accentuate the rich, nuanced tone and to make playability that much more comfortable on an already effortless instrument.  Every note sounds multi-dimensional and complete unto itself.  The small (smallest, really!) bodystyle focuses and concentrates the highly expressive tonal qualities of the Brazilian and aged Adirondack into a powerful but incomparably balanced voice.  A rare bird if there ever was one--call us up and get its glorious song all to yourself before it flies out the door!

Spotlight on Torrefied Guitars: Santa Cruz H14, Bourgeois Piccolo Parlor & Furch D34-AR

In this video our acoustic guitar experts present 3 of their favorite torrefied acoustic guitars; the Santa Cruz H14 Torrefied Mahogany Acoustic #1604, the Bourgeois Aged Tone Addy/Brazilian RW Piccolo Parlor Guitar, and the Furch/Stonebridge D34-AR Addy/RW Dreadnought Acoustic #64566.

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

Our smallest body style, the Piccolo Parlor is not a travel guitar and not a toy. Advancements in acoustic theory and construction technique provide a unique opportunity to take a fresh look at the possibilities inherent in a baby parlor guitar with steel strings. Ours has a full harmonic and dynamic voice in standard tuning, suitable for solo or ensemble work or vocal accompaniment. Serious players have used the Piccolo Parlor to showcase a wide variety of playing styles but have only begun to scratch the surface of its possibilities.

Bourgeois Guitars

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
