Given the multitude of exceptional powered studio monitors that exist today, our selection of power amplifiers for passive studio monitor speakers seems to be dwindling. For that matter few manufacturers have continued to develop new high-end speaker technologies for the pro/studio markets that don’t involve some kid of internal or otherwise integrated amplification. In most cases, an optimal pairing of a serious power amplifier with a great set of passive loudspeakers can’t yield the same kind of results one would expect from an Active loudspeaker with a purpose-built internal amplifier (or in some case bi-amplifier or tri-amplifier).
